Carers Week 2026

This Carers Week, Dementia Pathfinders is proud to support

the theme of ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’.

There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled and more than 1 million dementia carers in the UK. Carers are so important for providing daily support, advocacy and care for people living with dementia. Yet many carers experience loneliness, stress and daily challenges that can be difficult to talk about. This is why it is crucial to build communities where carers feel safe and supported.

Our Dementia Conversations offers a space for people living with dementia, carers, and anyone interested in dementia to listen, learn and share with one another. These monthly online conversations explore issues of belief, attitude and need, creating opportunities for peer connection and shared reflection.

Alongside this, our Dementia Suffragettes carers support group meets every Monday from 4pm to 5pm (UK time), providing a welcoming space for carers and former carers to share experiences, practical tips and lift each other's spirits.

As Mother’s Day approaches, we wanted to spend some time celebrating the mothers in our community. This special occasion serves as a reminder to appreciate the moments of enjoyment that we can share with loved ones amidst the challenges that may come with dementia.

Enjoyment is one of the core values of Dementia Pathfinders, and so this Mother’s Day, we thought we would spotlight some gift and activity ideas that can help you share meaningful, positive moments with the mothers and caregivers in your community.

Meaningful Connections

Connections are at the heart of what we do. Meaningful connection can be found in shared conversation, in activities that bring joy, and in spaces where people are welcomed and understood. The start of a new year can bring feelings of worry and uneasiness, this is when community and connections can help.

Whether you’re newly caring for a loved one with dementia, trying to understand a diagnosis, or working in a caring setting and looking to gain access to hands-on training, we can help.

Connection is one of our core values at Dementia Pathfinders. It is at the centre of how we can support people living with dementia and those who care for them. This month, we wanted to highlight some ways in which we can support you to find meaningful connection this year.
